Johannes Gutenberg

Johannes Gutenberg was born in Mainz, Germany. A goldsmith by trade but turned to printing later in life.

After financial problems as a goldsmith he formed his own printing business.

His printing methods have only been superseded in the 20th. century with the development of lithographic printing, and computer technology.

I'm sure that early books by Orison Swett Marden were printed using Gutenberg's technology.

Gutenberg was responsible for the first printed version of the Bible in 1455.

Although Gutenberg was financially unsuccessful in his lifetime, he left a legacy for us all. And for his time, allowed the mass printing of books, something that was frowned upon by many as hand-written books were regarded as more desirable.
