Steven Spielberg

Steven Spielberg is the most successful film director and film producer in motion picture history.

Even in his early twenties he began to direct for TV and the cinema.

It was in 1975 that he had his first big success with the film industry's biggest hit so far - the frightening classics 'Jaws.'

Spielberg followed up with blockbusters such as 'Close encounters of a third Kind' in 1977, 'raiders of the Lost Ark' in 1981, and two sequels.

And the tear-jerking science fiction thriller 'E.T. The Extraterrestiral' in 1982.

'The Color of Purple' (1985) and 'Empire of the Sun' (1987) wer somewhat less successful but in 1993 along came 'Schindler's List' and 'Jurassic Park'.

The former a terrific drama about the Holocaust and latter a computerised classic featuring dinosaurs.

'Schindler's List' gave Spielberg Oscars for Best Director and Best Picture. 'Jurassic Park' became the most commercially successful film of all time.
